With more than 104,000 specialists closing their deals and forging new customer contacts, 2008 edition of Düsseldorf-based EuroShop concluded on February 28.

Stirring optimistic expectations for the world’s retailing fraternity, EuroShop, witnessed participation of retail professionals from around 90 countries.

Wilhelm Niedergöker, managing director, Messe Düsseldorf, said, “With the EuroShop 2008 results, we’re above the industry average in the consumer-related segment. When compared to the previous event, the number of exhibitors climbed by 252 new participants from 1,659 to 1,911 – up by some 15 per cent. Rentals of net floor space rose by 13 per cent from 94,825 square metres in 2005 to 107,100 square metres. Hailing from more than 90 countries, 104,000 trade visitors attended, equivalent to 14 per cent or 13,000 more than three years ago.”

Dr Bernd Hallier, managing director, EHI Retail Institute and chairman of the EuroShop exhibitor council, was extremely pleased with the success of the event. He said, “There was a definite step-up in the attractiveness of stands across all halls. An exhibitors’ hard work was also rewarded as visitors from all corners of the globe were not only enthralled with the ideas but happy to invest in forward-looking concepts, too.”

The event also saw an increased proportion of Asian visitors with around 6,900 experts from India, China, Singapore and Taiwan attending.

Started in 2005 as the EuroShop Designer Village, the event served as a forum for retail architecture and design. International architects and design agencies unveiled solutions dedicated especially to the retail industry.

The next edition of EuroShop will be held from February 26 to March 2, 2011.
