Tesco UK-based retailer has opened its new format department store in the Czech Republic city of Liberec. Branded ‘My Liberec’, the newly launched store is spread over 75,350 square feet area across two floors and retails apparels, homewares and beauty products.

Further, the company plans to open the second department store ‘My Prague’ in the city in the third quarter of this year, reports Retail Week.

“The department store is designed to be a step up from a traditional Czech Tesco branch,” quoted Bohumil Zematy, store director, Tesco in the report.

The store will open in Liberec and carry a mix of fashion, home furnishings and food. It will be branded My Liberec and be run as a separate unit within the Tesco business.

The department store will include fashion brands alongside own-labels. Brands will include Esprit, Miss Sixty, Energie, Quiksilver, Levi’s, Springfield, Cortefiel, Women’Secret, Adidas, Billabong, Full Circle, Calvin Klein, D&G and Guess.

One source close to Tesco said the grocer is positioning the department store towards the higher end of the market – “one step down from Selfridges”.

My Liberec retails private labels like Florence & Fred and Cherokee, besides retailing over 350 brands including Levi’s, Simon Carter and Energie, added the release.
